Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)

Women's Artistic Gymnastics is an Olympic sport consisting of 4 pieces of apparatus: the vault, the asymmetric bars, the balance beam and the floor exercise. Girls can begin competing at the age of 8 and work their way up through the various grades and levels. Reaching the top levels requires intense training. At DGA we have a well established WAG programme which nurtures competitive gymnasts from grass routes right up to national competitors.

Nursery Squad

Ages Under 7

Grades/Levels N/A

Our Nursery Squad is designed to capture and nurture children who show signs of having the potential to become competitive gymnasts. They train 6hrs per week, mainly focusing on strength, flexibility and basic skills. From here they will join our Development Squad, in the year that they turn 7, if they have the ability to work towards club grades 6&5 and are considered capable of competing at regional, national or compulsory grades in the future.

Our Development Squad is for gymnasts working towards and competing at club grades 6&5 with the hope that they will go on to compete at regional, national and compulsory grades in the future. These gymnasts train 10hrs per week and work hard on their strength and flexibility ready for their range and conditioning routines and begin to lay the foundations for more complex skills. From here they will either join our WAG 3 or WAG 2 squads after passing club grade 5 or sooner if they are seen to be progressing well.
